Welcome students and families! (revised May 13, 2012)
We're into the final stretch!!!
4th quarter progress reports have been submitted, and we are nearing the finish line for this year! We've made a lot of progress so far this year, and we're going to make a strong finish :) Check weekly for what we're doing in class that week. We're going to continue to integrate more hands-on activities to emphasize key science principles.
Daily attendance is key to keeping up. Frequent absences make it tough on the entire class, as we have to go back and readdress old material. I recognize that sometimes you just won't be able to make it due to illness or other reasons. If you really must miss class, make sure that your family contacts the office and your absence is excused. I'll cover missed material with each student, and put together a make-up packet for students with excused absences (parents or guardians have called or provided a note to the school office identifying why the student missed class and with contact information so the office can verify). The ABT office tells us whether the absence was excused or not, and that is how we record it in our attendance books.
Here's the missed assignment policy (we've discussed this in class, and I've also included it on the revised class syllabus).
As a reminder, I stay after school every Monday - Thursday until at least 4:30pm for those students who would like some additional support.
The ABT Science Team continues to work to place the proper rigor into our classes so all of our students will be prepared for the many careers and educational opportunities available after graduating from high school. Contact me by telephone or email (see upper left of this page) any time you have questions or concerns. I am focused on our students' education during the school day, but I will reply to your message as soon as I can after school.
I wish all of our students and our families a great 4th marking period!
Go GATORS!

- Excused absence: make-up work provided on student's return, and must be submitted within 5 school days following return to classes. Make sure you check in with me, however, to go over material that you missed (I stay after school every day until at least 4:30pm).
- Unexcused absence: my assumption is that you skipped class. If this isn't so, please explain it to me.
- Suspensions: handled on a case-by-case basis (see the ABT student handbook for details).
- Missed tests / quizzes: made up within 5 school days of the rest of the class taking the test.
As a reminder, I stay after school every Monday - Thursday until at least 4:30pm for those students who would like some additional support.

Our Calendar
The calendar below shows our planned events - both for the school and our classes. I have also included this calendar on each of our class web pages for convenience. As we begin the school year, I'll post the due dates for projects as well as the dates for quizzes and tests. My policy is that our students will know of an upcoming test at least five days in advance, and quizzes at least three days in advance (there may be some rare exceptions, but I'll work to keep this as the standard).
